Where your memories live

Everything you write, say, or photograph in Smritika is stored in the app's private storage on your own phone — a space only Smritika can open. It is not in your photo library, not in a shared folder, and not on our servers.

Protected by your phone

Modern phones encrypt app storage automatically when you have a passcode set. If your phone is locked, your journal is encrypted. We build on the protection Apple and Google have already made very good.

Please set a passcode. It's the single most useful thing you can do to protect what you write.

An extra lock, if you want one

You can turn on App Lock in Settings, so Smritika asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint each time it opens — useful on a shared phone or a family tablet.

Nothing travels

Smritika makes no network requests at all while you write. It works on a plane, in a village with no signal, anywhere. There is no upload, no sync, no telemetry — nothing leaves.

Your book is yours to take

You can export your whole book at any time, free — every answer, every photo, every recording. It's a plain file you can keep anywhere: a laptop, a drive, your own cloud. You are never locked in, and you never need us to read what you wrote.

When you choose to share

Handing your book to someone you love (coming soon) is always something you do, deliberately. Nothing is shared automatically, and nothing is shared with us.

If we ever change this

If a future version adds syncing, we'll say exactly what changes, before it happens. We won't quietly start collecting what we said we wouldn't.
