Common questions
Do I need an account? No. There's no sign-up, no email, no password. Open the app and begin.
Where is my writing stored? On your phone, in Smritika's private storage. Not with us.
Can you recover my journal if I lose my phone? No — we have no copy. Please export your book regularly; it's free and takes a moment.
How do I export my book? Settings → Export. Free, always, everything included.
Can I use it on more than one device? Not yet. Syncing across your own devices is coming, and it will sync through your iCloud or Google account — never through us.
What does it cost? Writing, speaking, photos and export are free forever. One optional purchase unlocks syncing and the sealed hand-off. No subscription.
Do I have to answer the questions in order? Never. Skip anything with "Not today," or ask for a different question, or write whatever you like without a prompt.
What if a question is painful? Tap "Not today." Some questions need a different day, and some need never. Nothing is required.
Is my family able to see what I write? Only if you choose to hand them your book. Nothing is shared automatically.
What happens to my journal if something happens to me? Right now, your book is yours alone unless you hand it to someone. If you'd like your family to be able to reach what's on your phone, both Apple and Google offer a "legacy contact" you can set up in your phone's own settings — we'd gently suggest doing that.
